I have been training as a producer on a voluntary basis for the past 9 months with Cork-based theatre makers Makeshift Ensemble and freelance producer Kath Gorman as part of their Future Producers programme. This has involved myself, Aoife Power and Danielle Killeen starting off as production assistants on their tri-monthly, multi-disciplinary arts festival, Quarter, and ending with producing and managing every aspect of the August installment of the festival. Our programme has been ambitious, including sound art, a pop-up visual art exhibition, theatre work-in-progress showings, spoken word, panel discussions, music and short films. The idea of founder Eszter Nemethi was that a multitude of art forms co-exist under the same banner, promoting cross-pollination of ideas, arts community building, and ideally working towards future multi-disciplinary collaboration as well as audience development.
Here are some pictures of the weekender we just put on at the Triskel TDC, Gulpd Café and Plugd Records shop in Cork, shot by Aoife Power and Leah Hearne. It was a lot of hard work and late nights (and having no life for a few months) but looking at these pictures, and the support and encouragement we received from friends and attendees over the weekend makes it feel worthwhile and makes me proud of what we have achieved!
Onwards and upwards.
Big thanks to Eszter Nemethi and Leah Hearne, without whose vision and determination, none of this would have been possible. And to Aoife and Danielle, who are both well on their way to becoming unstoppable forces. Here’s to the present producers x x
